Each year the Center hosts a variety of educational and cultural activities, from conferences and celebrations to readings and lectures. Special events include the bi-annual art celebrations, and a Celebration of Minnesota Children's Authors and Illustrators.
The Center also presents the annual A.P. Anderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Literature and the Arts in Minnesota. The 2010 A.P. Anderson Award recipient is nationally recognized editor, publisher and writer, Emilie Buchwald. She joins a stellar group of past recipients including Kevin Kling, performer and playwright; Jim Brandenburg, world-renowned wildlife photographer, 2008; Warren MacKenzie, Master Potter and Teacher, 2007; Lise Houlton, Artistic Director of the acclaimed Minnesota Dance Theatre, 2006; Philip Brunelle, conductor, coral scholar and performer, 2005; Betsy Bowen, children's author and illustrator, 2004; Patricia Hampl, poet/memoirist, 2003; Siah Armajani, sculptor/public artist, 2002; Libby Larsen, nationally recognized composer 2001; Joe Dowling, artistic director of the Guthrie Theater, 2000; Robert Bly and William Duffy, founders of the influential Fifties Press, 1999.

September 11: Celebration of Minnesota Children's Authors and Illustrators, 12:30 - 5pm. Meet Minnesota's finest children's authors and illustrators. Book sales by Red Balloon Book Shop, readings, signings, slide presentations, magic, story-telling, music, ice cream, face painting, and much more! FREE and open to the public.
September 24 - November 19: Time Heals All: The Clocks of James Borden AND The Children's Book Illustrations of Lauren Stringer. Public reception and exhibition opening on September 24, 6:30 pm.
October 22: Fall reading series with novelist and short story writer Will Weaver. Reception and reading open to the public.

December 11: Holiday Celebration of the Arts, 10 am - 5 pm. Unique holiday gifts, open studios, food, cash bar, music.

2010/2011
Folding a Children's Book, A One-Day Workshop with Award-Winning Children's Writer and Illustrator Lauren Stringer. Create a children's book in one day! The workshop includes folding origami, cutting snowflakes, writing poems or very short stories and illustrating them in a small book.

Ongoing Glassblowing Sessions: Beginning and Intermediate Glassblowing Classes with Gail Dahlberg. Learn techniques of gathering, marvering, blocking, and blowing molten glass. www.gaildahlbergglass.com
Beginning Glassblowing: Students will learn to blow their own forms and to assist other glassblowers. No prerequisite necessary.

Introduction to Printmaking: Woodcut, Linocut, & Intaglio with Printmaker Art Kenyon. This one-day, hands-on workshop teaches the basic methods of devloping a finished print in one of three printmaking techniques of the student's choice.
